Things you don't know about Meat
Today we are going
to focus on meat, it may sound funny or boring but there are something you
don't really know about it, because it may change your lifestyle completely.
Meat, term applied
to the edible portions of domestic mammals such as cattle, calves, sheep,
lambs, and swine. The meat of cattle is known as beef; calves, as veal; sheep,
as mutton; lambs, as lamb; and swine, as pork. The term meat can be applied to the edible portions of poultry and wild
birds and mammals (game) and to the portions of other animals such as
crustaceans and reptiles that are eaten by humans. It is not known when the
human species began to eat meat; other primates are vegetarian with only
occasional episodes of opportunistic meat consumption.
It consists of skeletal muscle, with varying
amounts of fat and connective tissue, but internal organs are also used. Known
as variety meats, these include the liver, kidneys, testicles, thymus gland and
pancreas (also known as sweetbreads), brain, heart, and stomach.
Various meat
imitations are available that are made of proteins derived from soybeans,
wheat, yeast, and other plants. The proteins are treated and extruded to form
fibers that are then processed, flavored, and colored—with fats, nutrients,
binders, and other substances added—to simulate different kinds of meat.
Meat contains a lot
of proteins and a healthy consumption of protein is essential for the
development of the muscles, bones, and the cartilage of the body… it also help
in the development of the blood tissues..
It is also influential to general growth, maintenance
and repair of the body.
Thus one major
source of protein is the Meat.
Meat whether red or
white, is composed mainly of water, protein which includes all essential amino
acids, and fat. The meat prevents iron and zinc deficiency in the body..
Research shows that 45.9% of girls between the age of 11-18 years and 67% of women between 19-64
years of age have low iron intakes, leading to anemia [ symptoms could be
fatigue, headache, and inability to concentrate effectively]
Meat is a great
source of vitamin B12, selenium, phosphorus, thiamin, biotin, folacin, niacin,
vitamin B6, iron, copper, zinc and manganese.
Red meat for
instance contains vitamin B6, which is very vital immune utility, and helps to
regulate the blood sugar level which will be very important for those who are
diabetic… The red meat also contains vitamin B12, which is a building block for
red blood cells.
Its is also rich in
iron, a component responsible for the metabolism of energy, intellectual
development in teenagers and children, formation of red blood cells and the
transportation of the oxygen we breathe in inside those cells, so if you don’t
eat meat you are gradually killing yourself because the body can't survive
without iron.
However, caution
must be taken when consuming meat. High consumption of red meat in particular
can lead to high production of uric acid which can cause gout[a metabolic
disease marked by a painful swelling or irritation].
Medical experts say
the high level of iron in red meat could tell on a person's health as he ages,
though the case is not the same for children who are still growing .
They are caution
adults to eat moderately for the sake of their health.
